Our Principal
Fernando Abreu is the principal architect and founder of CENTRO Architects, based in Mérida, Mexico. Originally from Cozumel, he relocated to Mérida at the age of 17 to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. His early experiences—working in small communities to build kitchens during a mission trip, and participating in an affordable housing project in Alabama as part of an outreach program—shaped his belief that architecture has the power to improve lives. For Fernando, design is about more than just aesthetics; it's about the impact architecture has on the people involved in each project.
After completing his degree, Fernando established his design-build firm. Faced with early challenges, he pursued additional studies in structural engineering and earned a Master’s in Construction Management, allowing him to expand his expertise. His focus gradually shifted toward projects that blend modern design with the preservation of cultural and historical heritage. Today, CENTRO Architects specializes in the restoration and renovation of homes in Mérida's Centro, serving a growing number of international clients who wish to preserve the character of their properties while incorporating modern amenities.
Fernando’s work is guided by a strong sense of social responsibility. He is committed to treating everyone—from clients to contractors and laborers—with dignity and respect. His firm’s mission is to create spaces that not only fulfill the needs of their owners but also respect and honor the history and character of the surrounding community.
