For this renovation project in the heart of Mérida, our client sought to revitalize a house that was in ruins while making the most of her space in this small property. After consulting with several architects, she found our proposal to be the perfect fit. The key element of our design was the added terrace off the living and dining area, extending the space and offering a picturesque view of the pool. A garden and a spiral staircase leading to the rooftop terrace complete the transformation. Restoring the original front section, the living/ dining and kitchen areas occupy the mampostería structure showcasing high ceilings with vigas and viguetillas, and even preserved frescoes. Although a portion of the back section needed to be demolished, this allowed for the addition of bedrooms and bathrooms. Skylights were included to bring in natural light and ventilation. Consistent with colonial style, the house features pasta tile floors and wooden/ironwork doors throughout. The construction process went smoothly and resulted in a harmonious blend of colonial charm and modern comfort.
