This home renovation project we undertook included the kitchen, master bedroom and bathroom, closet and laundry room, stairs, half bath, and the pool/ garden area. We aimed to preserve traditional elements while incorporating modern features. On the back facade, a contemporary bamboo and metal structure complements columns and arches. On the front facade, we chose to keep what was there to ensure that the character of the home remained intact while undergoing a major upgrade. In the kitchen we combined a central section of pasta tiles with a more durable tile around the perimeter to offer resilience against everyday wear and tear. For the cabinets we opted for cedar with quartz countertops, and for the upper cabinetry a concrete and wood combination. On the second floor, we built a gym/meditation area as well as a terrace with a bamboo and metal structure. In the garden area we remodeled the pool and hardscape elements to create a natural and inviting ambiance. We used local materials such as chukum for the pool and crema maya stone for the fountain. A mechanical room was built with louvered aluminum doors for ventilation.
