In collaboration with a homeowner who wanted to maximize space and function in his home in Centro, we designed and built “Casa Jardin,” a house extension that includes a mechanical room, bathroom, laundry area equipped with a sink, shelves, and hanging space, as well as a bedroom complete with a kitchenette and closet. A corridor connects the new rooms to the existing house and also leads to the garden. Preservation of existing trees on the lot was a priority, so we took extra care to protect them during construction. Despite challenges posed by the project's compact footprint and compliance with INAH regulations, we maximized the space with thoughtful design and efficient storage space. The bedroom features a sliding glass door that opens into the patio with views to the garden. The kitchenette has a skylight to allow in natural light and ventilation, as well as an air conditioner, mini-bar, electric burner, and a sink with storage space. The bathroom design achieves both comfort and accessibility for the large bathtub while maintaining an optimal layout. Other design highlights include comfortable ceiling heights, arches and moldings, traditional Yucatecan doors with screens, and carefully chosen wood tones and handrails that contribute to the overall aesthetic. The wall paint and pasta tile floor colors were carefully selected and customized to complement the owner's art collection. Our lighting design enhances both indoor and outdoor spaces. Modern systems such as the water softener and pressurized water ensure comfort.
